With the Champions League group stages in full swing, it is time to look at the betting odds for the fourth game week (November 5th and November 6th). The highlight fixture of this round is Juventus vs. Real Madrid, in Turin. Juventus are coming off the back of a disappointing 3-1 loss to Real at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Italians gave a solid account of themselves, but were undone by the brilliance of Cristiano Ronaldo (and some dodgy refereeing). In order to make the last sixteen, they have to win this game.
Knowing that this is a must win tie for Juventus, most bookmakers are making them slight favorites ahead of the fixture. They are 13/10 with most bookmakers to win, while Real Madrid are at 17/10. The draw is at 5/2.
Juventus will be desperate to show Europe that they have not regressed from last season. The “Old Lady” were fairly impressive in last season’s Champions League, only losing to a powerful Bayern Munich in the quarter finals. In the summer, they signed Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente in a bid to boost their front line. However, the signings have not materialized as they hoped. In fact, Juve have been worse both in the CL and Serie A as compared to last season.
Their manager Antonio Conte has much to correct. The wise move would be to drop Fernando Llorente, and use Carlos Tevez as a lone striker. Juventus might have to win this game, but they should go for a three man midfield. Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal will be able to give Andrea Pirlo the protection he needs to pick out passes to the front three.
As for Real Madrid, they will be hoping for more of the same. Ronaldo has been in fantastic form, while Gareth Bale has been easing his way into the club. With Ronaldo the star man of the first fixture, perhaps it will be Bale’s turn to show his class at Juventus Stadium in Turin. Either way, this should be a fantastic and frenetic Champions League clash between two of Europe’s biggest teams.
